First Christian Church of Chattanooga will present an Organ Recital in the church sanctuary on Monday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. hosted by the Chattanooga American Guild of Organists (AGO). The recital will feature students studying organ from around the greater Chattanooga area. The event is free and open to the public; however, there will be an opportunity to support these young organists through donations to the Chattanooga AGO. All are invited to attend for a wonderful evening of music making.
This event is made possible by recently hired First Christian Church organist Russell Draeger, who is a native of Owatonna, MN. Draeger completed his undergraduate degree in Church Music at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and then went on to complete his master’s degree at the Eastman School of Music with David Higgs.
During his time at Eastman, Draeger took part in the restoration of op. 1573 by Hook and Hastings, which now resides in Christ Church Episcopal in downtown Rochester. Following this experience he came to Richards, Fowkes & Co., a manufacturer of tracker action pipe organs in Ooltewah, Tennessee, as an apprentice who is spending the year learning about organ building.
